infoUSA Provides API Solution to Topix for Local Business Directory

License Agreement Adds Millions of National Business Listings to the Topix Online Community

infoGROUP (NASDAQ: IUSA), the leading provider of proprietary business and consumer databases, local business listings for directories, POIs for navigation systems, sales leads, direct marketing, and email marketing, and global information, today announced its infoUSA division’s US business database of 14 million records have been licensed by Topix, the largest news community on the web, for its nationwide, local business directory.

As part of the agreement, Topix retrieves infoUSA data through a XML based API that allows searches to be performed in real time on the most current local business database available with infoUSA. Topix users can search infoUSA’s local business information including restaurants, shopping, entertainment, sports, beauty, fitness and travel categories to name a few. In a typical month, infoUSA touches about 15% of business database including adding 130,000 brand news businesses and removing about 125,000 “out-of-business” records from the database, primarily as a result of phone verification of local businesses.

Vin Gupta, Chairman and CEO of infoGROUP, stated, “Topix is a standout company in the online news industry and they have the ability to break information on events down to individual community level. By selecting infoUSA data, Topix customers are utilizing the most accurate business content available on the web today. infoUSA is the only company to telephone verify all businesses to provide our customers with the highest quality data available for online directory applications.”

“As the local news and information hub for thousands of towns in the US, we have an opportunity to give people great information about where they live, work and travel,” said Chris Tolles, CEO of Topix. “By partnering with infoUSA, we are providing citizens in every zip code in the U.S. with access to up to date local business listings, enabling them to take full advantage of their community offerings.”

infoUSA is continuously adding more content and features to its API directory assistance platform to enrich the value of information and technological offerings to Internet licensees and users. infoUSA’s API is also an effective solution for live Point of Interest (POI) search in the navigation environment.

infoUSA remains a leading provider of proprietary business databases to the online directories and local search industries. For more information, please contact Jim DeRouchey, President of Database Licensing, at 402-537-7915 or [email protected].
